You can register for the CA course by filling out the registration form available on the ICAI website or through the nearest regional office of ICAI.
After successful registration, you need to appear for the Common Proficiency Test (CPT), which is the entry-level examination for the CA course. CPT is conducted by the ICAI and consists of four subjects: Fundamentals of Accounting, Mercantile Law, General Economics, and Quantitative Aptitude. The examination is objective-type and can be taken in either English or Hindi. Once you clear the CPT examination, you can proceed to the next level.
After clearing the CPT examination, you are eligible to enroll in the Intermediate (Integrated Professional Competence) Course, also known as IPC. The course is divided into two groups, and you have the option to either register for both groups or individual groups at a time.
The IPC course consists of eight subjects, which are divided into two groups:
As a part of the CA course, you are required to undergo a practical training program. The practical training is divided into two components:
a. Articled Training: During this period, you are required to work under a practicing chartered accountant for a minimum period of three years. This practical training exposes you to real-life scenarios, helps you gain practical knowledge, and develops your professional skills.
b. Industrial Training: After clearing Group I of the IPC course, you are required to undergo a period of industrial training for a minimum of 9 months. This training can be completed with a company or a firm that is recognized by the ICAI.
